of London emigrated to Australia around 1866/67 with their
children Arthur Buxton, Harold Edwin and Margaret Marie. They went to live in
the Melbourne area, and most of the present Australian
Sturtevant
s are
descended from them.
They sailed to Australia aboard the WELLESLEY (built in 1844)
The British ship WELLESLEY (Official No. 308; International Signal Code: HCJN),
was built at Blackwall, London, by Richard & Henry Green in 1844. 1102
tons ; 162 x 36.5 x 23.1 feet (length x beam x depth of
hold). The journey to Australia was a very long trip and on board a vessel of
only 55m x 12m it must have been very arduous.
Some of the New Zealand family
later went to Australia, and there is a stray in Tasmania who could have been
from either the English or American families.
